The New Hero is the common man (and woman), you and me, that beat down the challenges of a reality filled with uncertainty. Take charge of your life... it's yours.

We clutch at straws when times get tough; when things seem to go every other way but ours. It is in our very human nature to look for answers, help and hope when we feel alone, abandoned. And often it is that feeling of hopelessness that is more dangerous than our situations. So how do you turn things around?

I don’t know. I’ve been a poor man for many years now – always getting a leg up and then, shortly afterwards, falling to the depths, again. But there are a couple of things I’ve realised about my behaviour – things that could help you.

Stick with one thing

Looking back over the years, one of the most prominent ‘features’ of my life has been my inconsistent nature. Jumping from idea to idea, never really giving it time to mature into something stable. Had I stuck with any one of those ideas, things might have been different today.

So my advice is: choose something in life, and stick with it. Build yourself around it; build all your other ideas around it.

Lose the bad habits

Even now I notice how things take a turn for the better when I cut down on the bad habits. Why this works, I don’t know… but it does. I suppose it’s something to do with the chemicals in our brains (which are so easily influenced) or the ‘energy’ we emit, if that’s your cup of tea.

My advice is to eliminate those bad things in your life, to make space for the good things. And you know what? Bad habits aren’t necessarily things like alcohol, cigarettes, and so on. They refer more to excess, a lack of self-restraint, anger,… the list goes on.

Have some guts

No guts, no glory. It’s true. You don’t have to wear a smile when times are tough, you don’t have to be the most optimistic person in the world. But you do need to have the will to pull yourself from the ashes and show you want a change of fortune.

Stop worrying about what others might think, and start doing what you know is right. Start doing what needs to be done instead of what’s ‘socially acceptable’.

My advice is to shed all inhibitions, and live your dream. Perhaps some people will frown today. Fingers will be pointed and there’ll be some whispering. But remember: when you’ve managed to pull yourself from the mud, there’ll be others who admire you.

Give! Give! Give!

Yeah I know this one is hard, but it will at least make you feel better. We close up when we’re stressed or worried; we push those who are most capable of helping us away.

My advice: the more you give the more you get. And by giving I don’t mean money… give some of yourself!

The Road To Somewhere

There should be a special badge for people who’ve gone from zero to hero – it really takes something special to change your luck and get the life you want. And it isn’t easy, either. But once you’ve done it, you’re a new person… someone with a little more experience than those who so casually point their fingers and whisper behind their hands.

Be the person you want to be; have the attitude you’ll have when things have finally turned around, today! It won’t be easy and it’s often a bumpy road, but when you’ve done it and managed to learn from your past, there’s no looking back.

Take charge of your life, make a difference NOW!
